Granblue Fantasy: Relink is Finally Launching in 2023, PS4, PS5 and PC Platforms Confirmed
After repeated delays.. and when I say repeated.. I mean it. Delays have become such an integral part of this game that it’s almost a feature at this juncture.
All jokes aside, after the better half of a decade in development – as this game was announced all the way back in 2016, Cygames have confirmed not only is the game finally launching in 2023, but it’s releasing on not only PC and PS4, but also PS5, opening up new opportunities for players to play.
New info has been revealed, and Cygames released their 2nd – and quite possibly final trailer for the game. And I’m excited.
I’ve been waiting for this game for years – my list of anticipated Anime RPGs a few years ago were Genshin Impact, Blue Protocol, Tower of Fantasy, Tales of Arise, Code Vein, the new Star Ocean game, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Granblue Fantasy: Relink.
And as of 2023 – I will have successfully played every single title in that list. Well, hopefully.
Relink was announced back in 2016, and was co-produced with Platinum Games, the studio behind Bayonetta.
After 3 years in development, Cygames made the public announcement – to the shock of many – that they had parted ways with Platinum and would not only make some pretty significant alterations to the game, but also fully handle the development themselves.
In-house. That was in 2019. In December 2020, Cygames confirmed that the game would be releasing in 2022, and would now include the PS5 as a platform accompanying the PS4. Due to unforseen.. complications, we’ll go with, they didn’t quite meet their deadline.
And as of January 2023, have confirmed they are in the final stages of development, and putting a little additional polish on the game before releasing it. This works for me. I’ve been waiting long enough, what’s another year, right? So long as they take this time to make the necessary adjustments to ensure a smooth launch.
First impressions are everything after all, and they need this to be a success. 7 years in public development, and how many years prior to that were spent developing the game before revealing it to the public? Exactly. They don’t have any room to mess this up.
And if the industry has shown me anything recently, it’s that Anime RPGs are all the craze these days, thanks largely to Genshin Impact.
A lot of information was revealed during the festival livestream – far too much to compile here. New characters. The main villain. Elaboration of the narrative.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a gorgeous, open-world action RPG. Think Tales of Arise.. but more Anime-y, much larger and grander in scale. I guess more closely relatable to Xenoblade Chronicles than anything else.
It’s going to feature multiplayer functionality, a large cast of characters to control, a deep, rich narrative and dude, it’s an Anime RPG. It’s not like it needs to be all that complex for it to be an enjoyable game.
