Devil Hunter: Eternal War Just Launched Last Month And.. Wow. It's Bad.
I’ve seen ads for this all over social media. “Obviously it’s gotta be worth checking out then if they have so much money to invest in advertising, right?”
Haha.. Right? I wish.
You guys have been watching me long enough to know that I dislike auto-play in my games. I’m sure a lot of you prefer a more “hands on” approach to playing games as well. We’re gamers after all.
I’ve played my fair share of Mobile games that are heavy on auto-play mechanics. Auto-combat, auto-pathing, auto-questing. The worst of these culprits take the form of Mobile MMOs though.
Never have I seen as much auto-play in a game as I do when I play a Mobile MMO, and honestly, Devil Hunter: Eternal War is by far one of the worst ones I’ve ever had the displeasure of playing through.
You start off with 4 different classes. Cool. They’re each gender-locked, of course, because why bother investing in animations and outfits for both genders, right?
There’s no character customization at all, meaning that an MMO, that is all about expressing yourself in how you play, denies you an integral part of the experience before even making it in-game.
If you manage to make it past all that and get into the game, you’re greeted by a messy, cluttered UI – a UI that not only looks like you’re playing a browser game but actually functions much in the same way as a browser game.
You click on the quest, the quest auto-paths you to your quest target, it talks to them automatically, it auto-paths you to your next quest-NPC or quest-objective, it auto-kills enemies for you, auto-loots your items, you auto-equip your gear.
Like, everything is done via a single click and almost no interaction from the player is required.
I have never been so turned off by a game in my life. I’ve played some really crappy mobile games over the last year of having this channel, but let me assure you, I have not played a worse game than this.
This isn’t an MMO. They may claim this is a “3D MMORPG” but I assure you, there is nothing in this game that feels even remotely MMO-esque. If this were what MMOs were striving towards, if this was our future.. yeah I’d shut down both my channels because this isn’t something I could ever support.
But hey! On the bright side, this helps us appreciate the better quality games even more, right?
