Blue Protocol June 2020 Update: Looking Towards Bandai Namco's Upcoming Live Stream
Every week – wait, no, pretty much every single day I get asked the same question. “Hey, Stix, do you have any new information on Blue Protocol?”
I know a lotta you are going to now go into the comments and troll me by asking the very same question so I guess I set myself up for this, but I figured you know what? I’m gonna talk about it. Blue Protocol that is.
If you’re unaware of what Blue Protocol is, then you’ve been living under a rock because everyone knows what it is: An upcoming free-to-play Anime-inspired MMORPG – a Japanese MMO – not South Korean from Bandai Namco.
This is what the vast majority of MMO players are putting their hope in. This will make or break the genre for them. For you. I guess.
So, taking a look at the official Blue Protocol Twitter page we see.. that they’re actually closing in on 100,000 Twitter followers, which is pretty cool, but other than that, their last Tweet was back on May 7th. That’s over an entire month ago. Well, honestly that was actually a Retweet. Their last actual post was on May 6th.
In their latest Tweet they went on to state the following:
“We have finished accepting questionnaires at 11:00 on May 7. Thank you for your cooperation. We will use it as a reference for future product development. We will be providing feedback on the survey results and future development directions in June, so please wait for a while.”
According to that Tweet, this month they plan on releasing the results for the survey taken after the Blue Protocol Closed Beta. I’d gotten to participate in the Closed Beta, as did Mrs Stix and we played the game quite a bit, opting to do videos on it covering our experience.
While I’d actually forgotten to participate in the questionnaire, I know a lot of people did. And I’m going to be honest here – from what I’ve heard, a lot of Japanese players were actually quite unhappy with the state of the game, while Western players thought the game was amazing. Exactly what they wanted.
As this is a Japanese game, you can be certain that Bandai Namco are going to make changes to better suit the Japanese playerbase because we’re less of a concern to them, but I’m hoping the changes don’t drastically change the way the game plays.
Navigating on over to the official Blue Protocol website, you can see that their latest post was actually on April 26th. Yeah, a month and a half ago. Again, that was concerning the Closed Beta questionnaire.
And that is everything in the way of communication since the last Closed Beta.
However, that doesn’t mean they don’t have any intention of communicating, quite the contrary.
Bandai Namco and the Blue Protocol team have expressed, on more than one occasion I believe that they’re going to be holding a live stream this month – in June.
I’m guessing that the live stream is going to cover the results of the questionnaire, and perhaps feature new gameplay, new features or – heck, even an update on what the roadmap looks like over the course of the year.
As it stands, the Blue Protocol devs stated that they wanted to get into an Open Beta this year if they could, however with the world in the state it’s currently in, you can bet Open Beta is far from possible.
We’re already half way through the year, and as Japanese players were dissatisfied with the result of the Closed Beta, you can bet that the changes they’re going to have to implement are definitely going to set the release window back.
How long remains to be seen, but I’m guessing it’ll be several months at the very least before we have another test period.
Blue Protocol is honestly the most excited I’ve been for an MMO since I saw Final Fantasy XIV what, 6 years ago?
I understand that they need time to overhaul the game and get it into a state that Japanese players will be happy with. This is what Beta test periods are for. To gather thoughts and opinions – feedback on the state of the game.
That way we don’t have another Bless. Another ArcheAge. Another Astellia. An MMO that ends up far from delivering what was promised.
Bandai Namco can take as long as they possibly need to make Blue Protocol into an MMORPG that will stand the test of time, that will remain relevant for longer than the aforementioned games.
Make sure you keep an eye out for an announcement on the live stream date. I wouldn’t expect it in the beginning of June, I believe, like earlier streams, it’s going to take place later in the month.
But I could be mistaken. Regardless, I’ll have a dedicated video up when they announce their live stream date, and then I’ll condense all of the information from their live stream shortly after in a follow-up dedicated video.
That way I can keep everyone up-to-date with everything related to the game.
