Ashes of Creation: Alpha One First Impressions
Ashes of Creation is a brand new upcoming MMORPG set to release some time after 2023, if no delays happen to get in the way of its development cycle. Nevertheless, the game is moving along on schedule, with the devs announcing various types of Alpha tests taking place over the next several months.
With this in mind, today we’re here to talk about the brand new Alpha One test phase.
It has been a long while since I last talked about Ashes of Creation. Probably over half a year. Since then, development has continued, new features have been worked out, new gameplay mechanics have been added. I took some time to go over the latest trailers uploaded directly onto the Ashes of Creation channel, specifically their boss battle, and the two classes, the Cleric and Mage, as they were the most recent content available, and thus far.. I’m really not impressed. Not because the game looks bad, but because it looks so incomplete. It looks very unpolished. It looks very uninspired. Currently, it looks like your typical, generic fantasy MMO but with poor quality character models and clunky combat and animations. But that’s to be expected! Again, this is Alpha One, an early Alpha build that is not at all indicative of the final product – when Ashes of Creation finally gets around to releasing–whenever that may be, I’m sure the game will have these issues resolved. If not, well it won’t be received very well. Especially given this is going to require an active subscription to play.
All in all, I feel as though Ashes of Creation (at least at this point in time, with the little we have to base our opinion off of,) is very overhyped. This is an incredibly basic looking MMO right now with only the skeleton of a functional game in place. While this could turn out to be a very large hit some day in the future, right now that is far from being a reality. It does look very promising – if a little dated already.
Now I might have a bit of a better idea if I ever get access to the game, but until then.. I’m not impressed.
