So I recently had the opportunity to try out Dark and Light, which albeit may be a little later than I would have liked, but I figured it may be better to get a First Look of the video out now as opposed to never.
Therefore I decided to jump right into the game and see what it has to offer.
I honestly didn’t expect a whole lot being that I dislike the company behind it (Snail Games,) but Dark and Light turned out to be a fairly decent game in its current iteration (Early Access.)
Graphically, Dark and Light looks great. Not as good as ARK I believe but still very nice. The soundtrack is also fairly well done.
One thing that took me by surprise however was that the UI is very reminiscent of ARK. A little too reminiscent to be a coincidence – it literally looks as though it was ripped right out of ARK itself. But that’s okay – imitation is the finest form of flattery after all.
The one thing that really stood out to me though (and not in a good way) was how poorly the combat was handled. It was incredibly stiff – feeling almost like I was standing completely still moving only the part of my arm that was required to hit the monster with my weapon (or fist.)
So that’s definitely something I feel needs working on, especially after having played ARK recently (and even Rust and DayZ, both of which have better combat.)
Finally, the game itself has a lot of bugs from what I’ve come across. Mainly visual bugs but I’m sure there are others that are ever more prevalent as you continue on. So keep that in mind, along with the fact that it is after all Early Access gameplay.
To sum up this experience of Dark and Light’s Early Access – I would say it was.. somewhat of a letdown. I was not really all that surprised by it and as a matter of fact would probably not recommend it to people in its current form.
Regardless, if you’re looking for an alternative to ARK – this may be up your alley.
