ZeniMax Rumored to be Developing a Mandalorian MMO
Are you a fan of the new Mandalorian TV series starring our favorite monotone hero? Because I got some pretty sick news – or, well, news is a strong word. I got a few very legitimate “rumors” from multiple sources that have leaked various successful games in the past.
We’ve all watched The Mandalorian. Both seasons. It has its ups and downs, no show is infallible after all, but for the most part, it’s a fantastic series loved by millions of viewers all around the world.
Rumors have been circulating over the last couple weeks concerning not only a Mandalorian MMO, but also The Elder Scrolls VI, and new games in the Quake and Fallout franchises.
Specifically pertaining to the Mandalorian MMO, it looks as though it might be in active development from none other than The Elder Scrolls Online‘s very own ZeniMax Online Studios.
It is public knowledge that ZeniMax has been actively working on various new projects, which happen to include an MMO – with their official website stating they have not only a brand new “AAA IP,” but also many “kickass new projects” in the works.
“We’re hard at work on ZENIMAX ONLINE STUDIOS products across many different platforms, including a brand-new AAA IP! We don’t have anything to share on these new projects right now, but keep an eye out for announcements and more in the future.”
“We’ve learned a lot bringing the world of The Elder Scrolls to life, and it’s time for us to take those lessons and build a new AAA IP.
The vision for our next game is grand in every sense of the word, and that’s why we’re developing a new engine to support the needs of the project and studio. Because we’re in early pre-production, this is the perfect time to join us and make your mark on an incredible new project.”
According to the leaks made, The Elder Scrolls VI is going to be set in Hammerfell, the game is still in its very early stages with an expected release date of 2025 to 2026. They’re supposedly looking to entirely reboot the Quake intellectual property.
But most importantly, is the rumor that XBox is shifting resources to assist Bethesda with massive workloads. For those of you unaware, Bethesda are the publishers behind both The Elder Scrolls games along with the Fallout games, and is a subsidiary of ZeniMax, with Microsoft having acquired ZeniMax recently in a $7.5 billion dollar deal.
So what this means is that Microsoft is shifting resources to aid in the rumored development of the Mandalorian MMO.
It is unconfirmed how long this will take, but given their blog post it looks as though they’re developing an entirely new engine to support it.
And with the success of New World – at least initially, and the continued success of Lost Ark, it’s no wonder ZeniMax are looking to expand their reach within the genre.
Honestly, this is pretty exciting news. Although I can’t see both Star Wars The Old Republic and The Mandalorian MMO co-existing, so this might be the final nail in the coffin the relic.
Regardless, I’ll keep you all update with any and all info pertaining to the MMO – until then, if you’re in the market for a list of confirmed MMOs launching in 2022 – I got you covered.
